Neuromodulators

Frequently asked

Questions

What is neuromodulator (Botox®, Dysport ®, Nuceiva®, Xeomin®) treatment?

Neuromodulators are purified proteins that inhibit the communication between nerves and muscles. When injected into facial muscles, neuromodulators soften the muscular contraction that is causing the dynamic wrinkling of our skin as we age. The results are smoother skin, wrinkle-free skin, and softer expressions.

How long is a treatment?

Treatments typically take only a few minutes to administer. However, each visit may last about 30 min as your practitioner will likely take the time to review your progress, tweak your treatment plan and prescriptions accordingly.

How does it feel? Does it hurt?

Surprisingly, the treatment is quite comfortable! We use the tiniest needles, vibration distraction and talk therapy to help you through the process. Even patients with fear of needles generally walk into their second treatment with a smile on their face.

What areas can I treat with neuromodulators?

Classic areas include the glabella (eleven lines), forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes. Off-label indications are gaining in popularity as we often treat bunny lines, gummy smiles, lip lines, chin dimpling, downward turning corners of the mouth, jawline contouring and platysma bands of the neck. Neuromodulators can also be used to reduce masseter size (V-line facial contouring) and spasms causing teeth grinding, or to treat excessive sweating of the under arms (hyperhidrosis).

How soon do I see results? How long does it last?

Results are generally seen within 2 weeks and last 3-5 months.

What are the risks involved?

Risks associated with neuromodulators are minimal. Bruising is possible but infrequent. Allergy is extremely rare. Brow or eyelid ptosis (heaviness or descent) has been reported in less than 2%, although careful assessment and proper technique reduce that risk even further.

What to expect after treatment?

Immediately post treatment, you might have slight papules or bumps where the product was injected superficially. These will subside after few mins. The injection points will have sufficiently healed after a few hours to wear make-up again.

You will be instructed to avoid any activity which could cause a big rush of blood to the head (such as prolonged bending down, handstand, yoga, big workout) or pressure to injected areas (tight helmet, massages tables) for the next 4 hours.

If this is your first treatment, you will be asked to book a follow-up appointment 2 weeks later, should touch-ups be necessary.

Are there any contraindications?

Pregnant or nursing mothers are advised to wait until they are done to pursue their treatments. Patients with neuromuscular disorders are not good candidates.

Is there any down time to the treatment?

No, there is no downtime. If you follow the post-treatment instructions, you can pretty much go back immediately to any of your regular activities.

How long does the effect of the treatment last?

The effect lasts between 3-5 months. The intensity and the duration of the treatment can vary according to the doses of neuromodulators used. It also makes this treatment easy to adapt to wants and needs of each patient.

How much does a treatment cost?

Le prix variera selon la quantité utilisée. Par exemple, «baby Botox» sur la glabelle et le front pourrait vous coûter environ 300 $. Alors qu’un traitement complet du visage pourrait vous coûter 800-1000$ ou plus.

How do I know if I am a good candidate?

If you are concerned about the lines and wrinkles on your face and would like to prevent, erase, or soften them, you will likely be a great candidate for neuromodulators.
