What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is abnormally excessive sweating that's not necessarily related to heat or exercise. Excessive sweating happens when a person sweats more than is necessary. Yes, it’s necessary to sweat. Sweating cools the body, which prevents us from overheating. People who have hyperhidrosis, however, sweat when the body does not need cooling.

Many people who have hyperhidrosis sweat from one or two areas of the body. Most often, they sweat from their palms, feet, underarms, or head. While the rest of the body remains dry, one or two areas may drip with sweat.

How long is a hyperhidrosis treatment?

A treatment session usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

How does it feel?

Neuromodulators for underarm sweating is not very painful. Very small caliber needles are used for injections and most clients compare it to a small pin prick which dissipates after less than a second. For further comfort, a numbing cream may be used prior to treatment.

How soon can I see results?

The effects of neuromodulators are usually first noticed as early as 3 – 4 days following injection, with full results within two weeks.

How do I get started?

Results last an average of six to eight months, with a third of patients going one year between treatments.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of treatment for hyperhidrosis with neuromodulators is generally $1200 plus tax and is often covered by private insurance plans.

What are the side effects ?

Injection treatments for Hyperhidrosis are generally safe. Serious side effects are rare, but possible. They include:

  • severe muscle weakness or asymmetry
  • anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction
  • toxicity

Less severe side effects may include:

  • dry mouth
  • headache
  • fatigue
  • pain in the underarms after the injections
